Fitting Troubleshooting

Problem: The harness slides to the side

Solution: A bit of sliding is normal but if the harness slides too much, check the fit in the following way:

Are your dog's shoulder blades (top part of front paws) hitting the neck straps every time they make a step?

If yes, try making the front straps slightly shorter and the top back and bottom belly straps a bit longer. Ideally, the front straps are not moving together with the front paws and the centre is still located on the sternum bone. See an example:

Problem: My dog tries to escape from the harness

Solution: Make sure that

  • the front neck ring is not too big
  • the rib straps are not too close to the front paw

Try making the neck straps slightly shorter and the top back and bottom belly straps a bit longer. The centre should still be located on the sternum bone. See an example:
And remember that you can close the locks on each clip for additional safety.

Problem: My dog scratches / itches after wearing the harness

Solution: If your dog does not have a skin condition/allergy, make sure that you have fitted the harness properly: it should not press on soft tissue or be too tight. Always consult your vet for medical assistance!

Here is an example of fitting troubleshooting:

This is Teddy, a female of Belgian Malinois, she wears an L-size harness in colour Summer Petunia.

At first the harness was not fitted correctly. The harness would likely slide to the side and it would be possible to escape it. After adjustments the sliding is minimal as confirmed by Marianne, Teddy's caretaker.  Please note that these are small adjustments that make a big difference in how the dog moves!
